General of ICL UNSCR 1559
condemns the
terrorist aggression against Journalist May Chidiac
Statement by Secretary General of ICL UNSCR 1559
Tom Harb
On the Terrorist aggression against May Chidiac
Commenting on the Terrorist attack against Lebanese journalist May Chidiac
today, M. Tom Harb, Secretary General of the International Lebanese Committee
for UNSCR 1559 said:
It is with great sadness and frustration that we learned about the barbaric
Terror act that took place today against Lebanese journalist May Chidiac. This
heinous attack against a professional woman, known for her courage and her
dedication for freedom, is despicable.
The International Lebanese Committee for the Implementation of UNSCR 1559, which
has raised the issue of Terrorism and armed cells remaining in Lebanon with
ambassador Terry Rod Larsen and five missions at the UN Security Council two
weeks ago, consider the barbaric act as an additional evidence of the existence
of Terror networks operating in Lebanon against its civil society. The
"Committee 1559" consider this act as wake up call for the international
community to act fast for the implementation of the remainder stipulations of
UNSCR 1559.
The resolution asked for the disarming of all armed groups and the dismantling
of Syrian security services. This horrible attack against a prominent woman in
Lebanon is of the caliber of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq
Hariri and his companions, of politician George Hawi and journalist Samir
Kassir, and the attempted assassination of minister Marwan Hamade. Hence the
"Committee 1559" calls on the Security Council, the Secretary General of the UN
to ask the Mehlis Commission to extend its investigation of the Hariri murder to
include the attempt to kill Ms Chidiac.
The "Committee 1559" warns against future attacks by the terrorist networks in
Lebanon, calling to attention the past repetitive statements made by parties
which threatened to use violence against Lebanese citizens who would disagree
with their views. Particularly statements made by factions that threatened to
harm anyone who would support the implementation of UNSCR 1559.
The Committee 1559 will keep the file of Ms Chidiac open till it is seized by
the UN and a proper international investigation is launched

Condemnation of the Terror attack against Ms Chidiac
Boston, September 25, 2005
The Commission on Diplomatic Relations of the WLCU condemns the assassination
attempt perpetrated by Terrorists against the life of Lebanese journalist May
Chidiac. The CDR consider this barbaric and cowerdly agression as targeting the
security and freedom of all Lebanese, particularly the free media.
The CDR, in consulation with the Council on Foreign Affairs of the WLCU, will
begin a round of contacts with Governments around the world to mobilize further
efforts to implement UNSCR 1559, the sole path to end the lack of security and
restore peace and stability to all citizens in Lebanon.
The CDR calls on the UN Security Council and the Secretary General to have a
special investigation of the attempted murder of Ms May Chidiac and consider it
as a Terrorist attack against an unprotected civil society. The CDR suggest to
UN authorities to extend the mandate of the Mehlis Commission to include an
investigation of the attempted assassination of Ms Chidiac.
The CDR will review the appropriate action to be taken by the WLCU grassroots
through the World President and his executive to mobilize world opinion in
support of stabilizing the security conditions in Lebanon. The attack against Ms
Chidiac reveals the continuous activities of armed cells and networks which
UNSCR 1559 asked to dismantle and disarm.

WLCU Senate speaker: "Terror must end in Lebanon"
Sydney, September 26, 2005
M Joe Baini, Speaker of the World Senate of the World Lebanese Cultural Union
severely condemned the Terrorist agression against one of Lebanon's leading
journalists. "The hands that amputated Ms Chidiac arms will be brought to
justice," said M Baini. "It is unaccceptable that Lebanon's civil society would
be at the mercy of terrorists, while the UN Security Council has issued
resolution 1559, clearly asking for full withdrawal of Syrian troops and their
intelligence and the disarming of militias."
