FHHRL's Report # 22

The 18th session of the Permanent Military Court convened on the 26th of July to look into charges of entering enemy's territory and collaborating with the Israelis . Of the 26 verdicts issued that day, some defendants were found innocent, others had charges dropped and the rest had sentences ranging between 3 weeks to 2 years. Most of the defendants had only provided basic services to the Israelis, such as labour and the procuring of water and fuel.

Sentences in absentia were also passed, ranging between 15 years and life imprisonment. Only one file was transferred to the Military Attorney General because it turned out that the defendant in court was not the same man as the accused in that file.

Moreover, some of the defendants spoke up about ill treatment in prison and lawyer Ibtissam Hariz asked the court to ensure that her client, Deeb Issa, is given the necessary medication which he has not been receiving in his place of detention.
