Report from Human Rights Lebanese groups
Beirut:  FHHRL held this afternoon (L.T) the first meeting of the committee to monitor the Israeli withdrawal from South Lebanon which started this morning.. The pull out, though scheduled for later, did not take us by surprise and the committee held an emergency meeting which lasted from 5 to 9 and a press release was circulated. The L’Orient Le Jour reported the FHHRL's efforts and concluded the article with our release. Likewise with al Nahar. There shall be releases for each day. The first one highlighted three points:
1- Regretting the Israeli shelling of civilians.
2- Registering with relief that no bloodshed and displacement of civilians was reported. We expressed hope that this pattern shall be repeated throughout.
3- We criticized the Lebanese government which, while calling on the accused of collaborating with the Israelis to surrender themselves, it took no provisions to receive and protect them. We expressed fear that this deficiency shall cause many to resist or summary assassination and liquidation.
Daily reports shall be issued by the committee.
